Timeline
2020 - ongoing
Monta's customers include some of the industry leading pioneers in EV charging infrastructure and operators of the largest public charging networks in the EU - Norlys, Samsung and Vestas.
As well as owners of the largest private charging networks, such as IKEA and Postnord. Not to mention over 100 thousand private EV owners with their own private chargers.
The challenge
Working with Monta has been fun, exciting and uniquely challenging.
EV charging is a young, turbulent and extremely fast evolving industry. New pain points and requirements are being discovered almost daily and working across EU means dealing with a complex and fast changing maze of EV infrastructure regulations, billing requirements and tax laws.
Fierce competition among multiple well-funded scale-ups in this industry is based primarily on features and reliability - two qualities that are notoriously hard to achieve at the same time.
EV charging solutions are highly demanding in stability, scalability, user experience and feature richness. Requiring deep domain knowledge, technical expertise and development process allowing for fast pace of change and high level of agility.

The solution
One of the first decision made by experienced founders of Monta - Casper Rasmussen and Anders Pedersen - was to hire an offshore development team to start development as fast as possible. The company is based in Copenhagen, Denmark - the place that’s not the best when it comes to hiring engineers. Hiring process in Denmark tends to be rather slow - it takes 5 month on average to fill a senior position. Salary expectations are also high - the highest in the EU, in fact.
By leveraging an already established team Monta was able to start developing in a matter of weeks and had the first version of their product ready in 3 months - a cross-platform user-facing mobile app and a backend core. During the next 6 months the system was expanded with a charge point integration service allowing to connect charge points directly to Monta and a web-based partner portal allowing B2B customers to manage large fleets of charge points.
As Monta scaled, our team and technical solutions evolved with them. Building a flexible event-driven backend that could handle growing user base, feature expansion and the complex integrations required by their growing partner network. This infrastructure ensured that Monta’s systems could keep up with their rapid growth while maintaining crucial reliability.

Partnering with Nevidio has been essential for Monta. Their expertise, agility and dedication to quality have exceeded our expectations.

How we set up our tools, processes, and practices when we start working with a software startup and how we approach new projects.
Outcome
By working closely with Monta's in-house engineering team and exchanging knowledge and expertise both ways we were able to deliver a fully featured partner portal, performant and secure private and public APIs powered by a scalable service-oriented event-driven backend infrastructure and a reliable and expandable billing service meeting all the most recent requirements and regulations.
Overall, our dedicated team enabled Monta to scale quickly and stay ahead of the competition. Instead of waiting months for internal hires, they had an experienced team delivering results from day one.
Our ongoing collaboration enabled Monta to catch up to their competition and expand into multiple new markets, including their recent move into the US after their $80 million Series B. We continue to support their growth, ensuring Monta's technology keeps pace with the rapidly evolving industry.
